Why March is a good month to “Hit Repeat”
March is such an “in between month”, not quite spring and not quite winter. It’s a tough month to love. But one thing is certain, I’ll always find something new to discover on every walk outdoors. Even in the “brown-ness” of March, you can find an unexpected splash of vibrant green moss among decaying leaves, or swelling buds on trees waiting for their big moment to burst forth.
What I find most rewarding is walking the trails at Nature At The Confluence again, and again. I think there is something new to learn in repetition. I never take the same walk, as new things are exposed, or even obscured as the season changes. Even early morning walks are vastly different than late evening walks – the light changes, shadows are different. Even the birds sound different.
So, I encourage you to get outside and find something to love about March. Seek out an old, familiar natural place near you and “hit repeat” and intentionally see it with new eyes and new ears. I think you’ll leave your place with a renewed spirit that will see you through to the freshness of Spring.
To inspire you, enjoy watching a short video I made called “Hit Repeat” . I took all the photos in the video as I walked the trails at Nature At The Confluence throughout the seasons.

The Unexpected Joy of Repeat Experiences, by Leah Fessler, New York Times; “There is joy in repetition partly because every human mind wanders. Consequently, we miss a substantial part of every experience. So repeating things can really be seen as another opportunity to actually experience something fully.”
This is a beautiful inspiring video and messaging Therese. As I woke up this morning, I said to myself and my dog, it’s March 1st, spring is close so we walked the Mequon Nature Preserve to absorb the changes coming. Your pics are beautiful too!
Thank you Cathy! I hope you and Sadie got out to enjoy the sunshine!
